About The Event

Aug. 9-17, 2024  (**There will only be 1 pickup at Meijer 6309 Lima Rd. in Ft. Wayne, IN.)

9 Days / 8 Nights includes 9 Breakfasts, 3 Lunches, 7 Dinners

From the four presidents to the Cathedral Spires of Custer State Park, to the rugged Badlands and Devils Tower, you will be amazed at the beauty found here. The Black Hills are a cherished part of South Dakota's identity. We hope you will join us for this trip of a lifetime!

Day 1:

  • Depart from Ft. Wayne, IN. 
  • Breakfast at Creighton's Crazy Egg Cafe, Warsaw, IN.
  • Lunch stop on your own
  • John Deere Pavilion, Moline, IL.
  • Check-in at Drury Inn in Coralville, IA.
  • Dinner included at the hotel                                                                                                                                           

Day 2:

  • Full breakfast included at the hotel
  • A visit to downtown Le Mars, Iowa, known as the Ice Cream Capital of The World. Home to Wells Blue Bunny, enjoy free time for lunch on your own at a variety of restaurant choices. Top it off with dessert at the Wells Visitor Center formerly known as Blue Bunny Ice Cream Parlor. Don't miss the LeMars Toy Store, the most diversified farm toy store in the U.S. (open til 2). Also visit The Browns Theater gift & chocolate shoppe.   
  • An afternoon visit to see the Falls at Falls Park in Souix Falls, South Dakota
  • Famous Corn Palace Tour, Mitchell S.D.
  • Dinner included TBA
  • Check-in at Kelly Inn, Mitchell S.D.  

Day 3:

  • Full breakfast included at the Inn
  • A visit to Wall Drug, a popular attraction with lunch included in Wall S.D.
  • Meet our step-on guide
  • Welcome to the gateway to The Black Hills. Guided tour of The Badlands National Park in our motorcoach 
  • Check-in at K Bar S Lodge near Keystone S.D. Our home for 4 nights, Take a deep breath & enjoy the views of Mt. Rushmore from this prime location. Stacy will get your keys and the luggage handlers will deliver to your room. Relax on the huge deck and soak in their outdoor hot tubs   
  • Welcome dinner included at the K Bar & S Lodge 

Day 4: 

  • Full breakfast included at the lodge
  • Depart with our step-on guide
  • Motorcoach through Custer State Park known for it's stunning beauty, rolling hills, granite peaks, & crystal clear lakes. Stop at the visitors center and then travel to the Wildlife Road where the buffalo roam. A stop at the Bison Center and learn about their famous "Buffalo Roundup"
  •  Lunch included in the "Game Lodge" at Custer State Park
  • A narrated Jeep ride on Needles Highway which is famous for winding through narrow tunnels and past towering granite spires.
  • Dinner on your own at the lodge
  • K Bar & S Lodge

Day 5:

  • Full breakfast included at the lodge
  • Depart with our step-on guide to visit Devil's Tower, a unique & natural wonder. If you follow the paved path completely around the butt, you will see our first U.S. National Monument 
  • A visit to Deadwood, S.D., where we will walk in the footsteps of historic old west legends like Wild Bill Hickok & Calamity Jane. 
  • Private Dinner and Show served in the High Plains Western Heritage Center. This special museum plays an important role in preserving the cultural heritage of the American West & is a "must" visit
  • K Bar & S Lodge 

Day 6:

  • Full Breakfast included at the lodge
  • Depart with our step-on guide for a morning visit to the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. This special landmark celebrates the history and legacy of the U.S. It is an impressive engineering feat that serves as an important symbol of American pride & patriotism.
  • Lunch on your own in Keystone
  • Ride the "1880 Steam Train" to Hill City. This narrated 20 mile trip takes us through the vistas of Harney Peak, mining encampments & the scenic hills following the original route of the Chicago Burlington & Quincy Railroad laid down in the 1880's. 
  • Crazy Horse Memorial visit. This is a mountain monument under construction which will depict a Lakota warrior, riding a horse and pointing to his tribal land. This monument has been in progress since 1948 & is far from completion. 
  • Farewell Dinner will be at the Ruby House in Keystone 
  • Evening patriotic return visit to Mt. Rushmore one last time to watch the ceremonial night lights of the monument 
  • K Bar & S Lodge

Day 7:

  • Full Breakfast included at the lodge
  • Check-out & say "goodbye" to our step-on guide
  • Depart
  • Another visit to Wall  Drug heading East. Lunch on your own at choices of restaurants, & more time to visit the wonderful art museum, downtown shops, stop by Golddiggers for your Black Hills gold & more.
  • A stop at Historic Minutemen Missile Sight. One of 2 places in America where the public can view a Cold War era missile silo. 
  • Dinner included at Johnny Carino's
  • Check-in at Clubhouse Hotel in Souix Falls, S.D. 

Day 8:

  • Full Breakfast included at the hotel 
  • Check-out & depart
  • Lunch at Culver's on your own
  • Dinner included at Machine Shed, Davenport, IA.
  • Check-in at Cambria Hotel near Bettendorf, IA. 

Day 9:

  • Breakfast included at the hotel
  • Check-out & depart
  • Lunch Stop on your own 
  • Welcome Home!!

CANCELLATION POLICY:

In the event of an emergency that would prevent you from going on the trip, we will try to refund as much as possible, depending on reservation policies of suppliers. Kellam Road Trips cannot guarantee any refunds after 30 days prior to a day trip and 60 days prior to this extended trip, unless a replacement can be found. If Kellam Road Trips cancels the trip, you will get a full refund.
